Overview

IP Discussions with Joshua Simmons is a series of conversations hosted by nationally recognized intellectual property litigator, Joshua Simmons.  Each month, Josh is joined by a panel of IP luminaries, leading scholars, and industry insiders.  Together, they examine major topics and events in a civil, roundtable format.

When the Internet was nascent, platforms were given certain protections against intellectual property claims based on the activities of their users. Episode two of our IP Discussions series will address this topic, reviewing a range of related issues and their practical considerations, including, potential liability that platforms could face from their users’ infringements, protections and safe harbors to protect these platforms and how such systems work for all involved parties, as well as potential legislation and regulatory developments.

What You Will Learn

• What potential liability could platforms face from their users’ infringements
• What protections and safe harbors currently exist to protect platforms from such liability
• How do those systems work in practice for IP owners, platforms, and users
• What legislation has been proposed to change the current platform liability and safe harbor system
